Recreate NZ supports families who have children with disabilities. One of the support programmes we provide is a Mother Retreat Weekend and this aimed at mother's who have a child or multiple children who have an impairment of some kind. For a parent raising a child with a disability face the reality of losing the role of being a 'normal' parent. Most of the mums who attend the Retreats have proven to be a real life line in times of great stress and hardship. Of course there are incredible joys of raising a child with disability but most of the time these parents are battling for a break and respite from the task of being their child's full time caregiver. The weekends provide a space for them to breath, to sleep, to be counselled, supported and a chance for them to be refreshed and pampered.
